Zollie L. Smith joined the US Army after graduating from high school. He was trained as an airborne infantryman and served fifteen months in Vietnam. He was awarded the Bronze Star Medal and the Purple Heart. After his service, Smith went on to earn several degrees, diplomas, and designations. This gave him the ability to work in several different fields including, a police officer and detective, postal inspector, senior pastor, assistant district superintendent and executive director of U.S. Missions Assemblies of God. He and his wife, Phyllis, have six daughters.
